Barred Rock color differences in 4 week olds

Krys109UK or Tim.

Could it be that the lighter of the two is a F1 cross between a Barred Rock and either a White Rock or a Columbian Rock?

I herd that some breeders was trying this cross to "Clean Up" the barring on the the Barred Rock. They were saying that the first crossing was splotchy and they had to cross them back to the parent stock to really clean the barring up..

though I do have barred rock hens that would be a partridge rock roo over barred hen. Which should produce black bleeding red, not a barred son. Right?

That cross would be sex linked. Once barred males & black females.

I can imagine that barred rocks with less good barring might be crossed to one of the rocks carrying columbian in order to tidy up the barring.

I have not played much with barred rocks nor have I done barred rock X silver columbian in any breed. I'd have imagined a barred rock male on silver columbian would give black barred with one barring gene. I expect Tim has more experience with this.
White rocks, if silver & columbian, would also have dominant white. I have done a similar cross between exhibition barred rock & white wyandotte which carried dominant white. The offspring were dirty white with ghost barring (probably black flecks but I don't remember those).

That's what I was afraid of. Man that rooster threw a LOT of males on top of everything else...

He can't.....in aves the sex of the offspring is determined by the female.
