I received a box of 15 "rare" breed assortments at the end of Dec. Theyre 12 days old today. Several remain unknown for their breed, (which is both fun and frustrating
)
This little lady started black with a pale smear of yellowish on her skull cap and the tiniest hint of lighter coloring underneath her belly. (Ive two colored this way) both single comb, yellow clean legs, 4 toes. Both Dominique and barred rock are possibilities for breed. But they could also be second generation Olive eggers which could look like ANYTHING since OEs are mutts and this hatchery (MPC) has multiple generation OEs that they sell.
The chicks are both developing white tips to their feathers...but not really what I would call a "barring" pattern, except maybe across the shoulders just this morning being visible finally.
Theyre both very sweet, and a little shy. Ive never owned either barred breed. Thoughts from someone who is familiar with this pattern and how it first starts to develop?
