First off I have three 25 week old barred rocks. I know one of them layed a 'huge' egg two weeks ago. I say huge only because they are pullets and this was no pullet size egg. I'd consider it an x-large egg. Since that x-large egg one of them has stopped laying. I have examined all three for any external signs of a problem which might prevent egg laying but all seems fine. I have no clue which one actually layed the egg. Since then I have also noticed what looks to be runny egg yolk and whites on the roost poop boards in the morning. Not every morning but a few times a week. Do you think all is OK and maybe the one not laying might start again soon? Maybe I'm just being overly concerned. All three of the girls seem perfectly happy and healthy. I just find it odd that all three have been laying for around three weeks now then one suddenly stops and not layed for the past two weeks.

Editing to add:

Their diet consists of Purina Sunshine Flock Raiser and Kalmbach Poultry Starter/Grower which is both 20% protein and supplemented with Omega Fields Omega Egg plus Manna Pro Ground Oyster Shell for added calcium.

Hi! Yes, I see we have posted similar questions to the forum! (lol!) I hope someone has some info about this...

Wow, I just came on here for similar problems and hope someone helps. I might go on the egg coundtdown thread and refer those gals to here.

My 5 were all laying well, then a few misses. Three mornings in the last 3 weeks I found 3 shelless eggs (3 for 3 lol) then my EE started laying in the run. Then I locked them in in the morning to get her back on track and she laid on the poop board. She limps once in awhile when she doesn't use her ladder to the roost, so we lowered the nest boxes and they all have laid in them still and she has been in them. But didn't lay in it. They all get along, no boss hen to speak of, and yesterday I found a very, very thin shelled egg. Also my SL Wyandottes at the same time started laying cream colored round eggs, not the brown usual shaped oblong eggs. Also I have found 4 times now an egg in the nest box with yolk smeared on it, but the nest box is completely dry and clean. Not even any dried stains to indicate a broken or eaten egg. I am completely perplexed, never had hens do this in the past.

They get layer pellets, Manna Pro Oyster Shell, treats sometimes are sunflower seeds, mixed with scratch, crunched egg shell, and mealworms. I used to let them free range daily until the little rats started migrating to the front yard (they have two whole acres with lots of horse poo ) and eating/destroying my flower beds especially my daylily's. Kids! Help!

I dont know if that is normal or not. But I have read that pullets just coming into laying can have all sorts of eggs. Tiny, exlarge, soft shell, no shell, they will lay in random places like the run or poop board or the floor of the coop. All that is very normal until they mature a little and things get regulated in their bodies. I hope someone else wth shelless egg experience can give better advise. But most likely things are fine.

agreed, mine did crazy stuff when coming into laying. they settled down and are doing fine now that the heat has broke and is cooling down.
