Barred Rock gender Pullets hopefully

@speckledhen your thoughts on these two? I understand that you are busy and may not be able to respond but thank you for all your information on this site.
The coloring is female, but that only is a good clue if they are pure BRs, not a cross. I had some Silver Phoenix x BR chicks and the males were dark like that because they only got one barring gene from the mother. That said, pullets can have different sized combs. My exhibition quality group turns 9 weeks old tomorrow and the pullets have almost no comb, but that said, hatchery pullets generally grow larger combs earlier than the breeder quality ones in my experience. If those are both verified as having both parents BRs and not a mix, they can still both be pullets from the dark coloring. They do carry only one barring gene, it appears, which means female in BRs.
That's all I have for you! At this point, I'd say even the one with the larger comb is female. In a week or two, check the upper back between the wings to see if on the large combed one, a group of skinny, pointy feathers are coming in which would be male saddle feathers. Hope this helps! Let us know.

If they are pure barred rocks and not mixes, then I think both are females due to darker over all color of the plumage. But that comb is mighty big on one of them. I would watch that one closely over the next few weeks.
Also supposed to be pure BR but who knows? We used to breed and train K9s. Ours were from German/European lineage. We were "breed wardens", making notations, documenting everything. For the litter to be registered, a breed warden Had to witness the tie!

Oh, you are a dear! I respect your knowledge. I want an idea but will wait for other possible indicators of cockerel.
Thank you so much.

Was that a Straight Run bin of Black Sex Links?

Black Sex Link cockerels will be barred, and the pullets will not be barred.
That's why I added that. We all know that things/chicks get mixed up at some feed stores. I'm hoping pullet but watching for cockerel. Thanks.
