Hello all,

I have a 2-3 year old barred rock hen who is not acting like herself. She is lethargic (often stands still) with a hunched posture, has diarrhea (couldn’t get pic but it was watery and light green), and has not been laying.

I checked her for mites and lice but I couldn’t see any. I will look again.

They are in the process of molting.

I have antibiotics and safeguard along with all the other vitamins and things in my chicken vet bag. I’m just not sure what to do and in what order. Should I worm her first and then give antibiotics after the worming cycle? Should I go straight to antibiotics?

Here are some pics.

Thank you for any information.

ETA: she has a bad smell coming from her mouth and her crop is soft and squishy. I know for sour crop people withhold food but she’s already so skinny I hate to do it.

She sounds really sick. I'm sorry no one answered your post. Next time, edit the original post instead of posting a second time - folks see that second post and think someone answered you, and then no one actually opens the thread.

How is your hen now? What did you end up doing?

Watery light green diarrhea indicates not getting enough to eat.
