Her face is pale sometimes and sometimes red.

That's a pullet. She's getting to the age of sexual maturity and will start getting a larger, redder comb and face from now on, and will give you nice brown eggs in a few months.

Awww! She looks like our Amelia, who is part chicken, part friendly puppy dog! One of our most faithful layers, too, although if she never laid another egg, she'd still be my favorite.
