Yesterday I found one of my Bantams who is about three months old dead in the nest box. I thought it might be an illness so I buried it and thought nothing of it. Then this morning I opened up the coop to let them out and my Barred Rock was killing my other Bantam. She was in the nest box dancing on top of it. She had killed this one to. Any advice on how to stop her? If not we are going to have to make a chicken and rice dinner. She hasnt even started laying yet and I dont want a chick killing momma.

They were not brooded together but the Barred Rock is about 20 wks and the Bantams are about 12. The Bantams were brooded in the coop where the Hens could have interaction with them. I will get a pic of the barred rock in just a minute.

If she were living in my coop, she'd be chicken and dumplings in a hurry. That's ALOT of aggression from a young bird. Some pecking order business is normal, but killing 2 other birds is not. And she may do this EVERY time you introduce new chickens :(

I guess you have to ask yourself if that's something you'll want to put up with.

Oh if I cant find something today to fix it she will be Sunday's dinner. I plan on letting my chickens hatch out their eggs and be mommas and I just think she is going to be a killer. Here is my Bantam killer:

I will pray for your mom. Re: the BR: I would definitely not keep such a bird in my flock. Not only has she killed 2 birds, but she obviously cornered them to carry out her murderous deed. If you want to hatch babies, you don't want to allow a bird with a mean streak to breed. Best to cull her sooner rather than later. Pecking order is one thing... murder, quite an other.
