Barred Rock People

Yeah that is more what it is for is experience and the fun of having friends and doing 4-H. I am not looking to get into this seriously. The kids just love going to the fair and having the friends showing etc.. Showmanship is more what they care about. I just have backyard chickens want to take the best of what the plain ole backyard has... My older daughter shows goats started with two mixed breed goats I was given. Are they perfect HECK NO but she shows them right and has won showmanship buckle a few times. She has also placed a few times and lost a few it makes for a better rounded person win some loose some. If this is what they want to try I want them to have fun, take the best of what we have I am not into spending thousands on birds but will do the best with what we have to offer. I am be wrong for this but this is how I view it. None of us are perfect and neither is anyone in my crew of chickens, goats, horses, cats, dogs, cow and poor limpy peahen or gunieas or kids but the mom is Perfect

Sure I will post more pics as time goes on. I think I will probably take both tonight and then when the show time comes leave one at home. Our fair isnt a big time thing its only 2.00 each to enter! AS far as the split wing no she carries it normal I think it was the way I was holding her and trying to take the picture they were not happy with me as we gave them a treat of hardboiled egg and took them out of the cage and they were mad at me

. As far as your suggestions that is pretty much my aim for them. So thats why I was asking I know they have faults and I know there are not many IF any real SQ birds at our little fair. What one of those two would be the better of the two? I know they are faulty just plain "Hatchery" Stock that is where I got them from how can I expect more. Once in a while you get better but there will always be one that is slightly better.. I appreciate your help and insight!!

Um, nope they're BR pullets probably still in their juvenile molt yet.

Look a the barred chick in this pic. the very left one, its a yet younger Black Sex-link male for comparison. Notice the odd, uneven, and splotchy barring typical of a barred cross-breed.

horseyjess: They're still a little young yet to make a good pick, but for now I 'd say keep looking at the one on the left looks to have the better looking barring for now but it will change quite a bit in the next couple of weeks. Anyhow, have fun at the show and study and learn the outcomes of the experience.

Yeah I just let her enter both last night. Say one turns or horrible and DQ quality I wont let her go with it. I told her they are all pets and not perfect and that she may or may not get anything. She realizes it is for fun and that she will be learning by bringing them there! I really do not feel like bringing 13 to the fair so in the case of these two and two of the Cornish she desided to bring last minute one of each will be staying home. She wants to learn so it will be good! Heck she is bringing a showgirl that I told her NO cause he has to many things I of all people can pic out. Her response to me was thats ok I want other people to see him and how weird he looks HA HA. So she is in the right frame of mind for learning something. Tho I am sure if she didnt place at all out of 8 that she is showing she might be a tad upset. (her sister is showing the other 5)

Nice looking little BR Pullets you have there. I agree let them feather out take one or both and learn loads from the show. I went to a show yesterday and it was a great learning experience and I didnt even enter. Enjoy them is the main thing and learning is fun.
