I am new to raising chickens and not having the knowledge
for identifying genders I need some help in identifying the sex of this chicken.
I have read many posts about this but it still has me stuck.
I actually have two subjects but will put them with this one with pictures.

Both chickens are the same age 13 weeks old.

Barred Rock:"Bell" or "Bill"
He/She does not crow, has yellow legs no black splash on them,
mounting a 22 week old light brahma, leader of the pack. and it has
learned to jump on command for food! Largest chicken of my flock.

Black Australorp Pullet: "Maggie"
If you note she has no Comb or waddles I have looked at pictures of Australorps
all having both comb and waddles. Maybe she is not an "Australorp"
She is almost as large as "Bell"

Appreciate any information on them. Thanks a Bunch!

Barred Rock: I would say that he's a rooster. Although that can be dominance, since he is large, he is probably a roo. We had a BR "pullet" and he grew the fastest and then started crowing.

Australorp: I'm not as sure on this one, but I would say a pullet, since she doesn't have a comb.

Good luck!

Bill is 100% a cockerel. Maggie is a pullet.

Agree.

Well Thank you everyone I guess I have a Rooster!
I hope he is not mean and stays as sweet as when I got him 3 days old!

I have a beautiful Lavender Orpington I0 weeks old I will post a picture of her.

Yup, BR is a cockeral, Australorp is a pullet. I have both sexes of both breeds and yours look just like mine at the exact same age. The male and female of both breeds look very different from each other in that the cockerals have well developed combs and waddles and they're larger than the pullets. The barring in the BR is also different on males and females. The males are more white than black and the females are more black than white. The females just look darker. You can only really see it, though, when they are side by side but then, it's really noticeable.

In terms of keeping your BR cockeral sweet, I have a few suggestions. Pay special attention to him, talk to him, pet and "hug" him a bit (give him a squeeze on his sides, one hand per side while he stands on the ground). Pick him up occasionally but not too much or he'll not want to be around you and will be wary of you when you reach your hands out to him. I have 8 cockerals and my BR is by far my favorite roo and one of the 2 I'll keep. The other 6 are destined for the dinner table at about 18-20 weeks. I have 2 RIR roos that create a lot of conflict in the flock so I'll probably have them for dinner next week.

Good luck!

Well you guessed it right "Bill is a Rooster"
He has been mounting my 27 week old Light Brahma.
He tried mounting "Maggie" today she gave out a squak and
looked at him like he was crazy! LOL how entertaining it is like TV!
