So here’s a good one for you... almost 3 weeks ago I went to TSC to get some chicks to replenish my flock. I ended up with a variety and decided to try some black sex links for the first time too. Well, here’s where I wish I had known a little more about them. I got 3 pullets and in the same bin was another which the lady said “oh there’s one barred rock in here” so me, who has two 3yr old barred rocks which I love got excited and said definitely I want her! So, later I start researching and find out that barred rock pullets have the barred look and dot on the head just like a black sex link roo ‍♀️ So far I can’t see anything obvious to say one way or another but I can’t find any research to show a few things I’m wondering... 1- does the dot on the head go away quickly on a sex link compared to a barred rock or does it stay approx the same time?
2- all the pullets have blackened legs but this barred one has yellow. Do barred rock pullets have yellow legs? In the end I’ll find out eventually I just need to know for planning my future. I’ll attach a few on the day I purchased and today. It’s obvious which one it is.. it’s the only one with a dot on its head and barring on the feathers Thanks!

Ugh, I think you might be right!

A BR pullet *should* have dark washed fronts on yellow legs. When it comes to hatchery birds though... they don't always fit the expectation.

But in barred or cuckoo breeds, as the stripes come in... the white stripes will be wider than black in cockerels. I THINK I see double wide white compared to black on your chick in question.

I love my Rock hen also. :love

Thank you for your reply! I’m hopeful for a barred rock hen but I’m not holding my breath I thought the yellow feet and legs might be indicative of a rooster too!
