Barred rock roo?

Bought some hens from a local breeder. One I think is a roo.

I am in the same boat as you are. I got a chick from a friend that has multiple species. I believe I have a Barred Rock also. To me it is hard to tell because of the crest. However, I have seen adult Barred Rock hens that have crest and waddle of a roo. Here is a picture of mine that is 7 weeks old and another that is an adult and laying eggs.




I hope that they are hens for you.

For 7 weeks that would be a cockerel. A hen should not be showing that much comb color for another 3 month or so.

My BR is 11 weeks, and is much lighter and has a huge comb compared to the other BR.

To me the one you posted if 11 weeks looks hen like. I am not seeing any hackle feathers forming. Can you post a pic of the bird from the side?

it's going to be a roo. Here's a photo of a hen around the same age. The comb is not really showing at all yet.

I have another barred rock hen, much darker and no prominent comb like this one.
