I've been thinking I have two Roos & a hen. Then I was convinced they were all three hens & now these red combs are throwing me off! They are also lighter than the smaller one. Opinions? 4 weeks 3 days old.

That's what I was afraid of!!! I can't keep him but I have a perfect home waiting for him. Thanks!

How sure are you about #2? The comb on it is nearly the same as the rooster but it is a shade darker - not as dark as the tiny one tho

Here's a pic of the tops of them - one is a black astralorp hen but the other three were the ones in question

When a Barred Rock chick feathers in bright, white bars that are bold, and when a Barred Rock chick sprouts red wattles and combs at 5 weeks? That is a cockerel.

When a Barred Rock chick feathers in with narrow bars, and those bars are more like spots or cuckoo patterned and the over all look is dark, and at 5 weeks has no wattles sprouting and comb in still dull and yellowish? That is a pullet.

Now, apply that to your three birds. Here's a couple of pairs. Side by side, it very easy to train the eye to see the difference. First pair is hatchery stock. Second pair is true bred, heritage stock.

I'd rather teach a person how to fish than just give them a fish.

Thanks :0) that is really helpful info. I may need Abother week to say for sure on one in question but based on that info I'm sure #1 is a rooster. And I'm sure #3 is a hen. But the feathering on #2 says hen but it's comb & waddles are red just like #1 so maybe ill need another week for sure. We hatched them at my sons kindergarten class so we had no idea breed or gender & have had to fish!!!
