This is my barred rock hen and I'm going to be showing her this August in the county fair! Does she look show quality to you guys? Are her feet the right color.....if not what can I do?

In many cases, 4H exhibitions are much more about the handler and their knowledge than about the bird.

County fairs are fairly lenient places to show birds as the competition is often weak and often times the judges aren't licensed, but just someone who knows a bit about birds.

If you were to actually exhibit that bird in an APA show, that would be different. That female is too poorly bred to expect to do very well, and might, in fact, not be judged at all. Judges just tend to write "commercial" bird on coop tags and move on when the bird hasn't been bred to exhibition quality.

If this is a pullet and hasn't laid for very long, the white legs would be a disqualification, as the standard of Rocks require a yellow shank. If this is a hen who have been laying very heavy, the legs do drain from color.

Hope those are answers that you find helpful.
