Barred Rock thread

I have one barred rock in with RIR and Buff Orpington hens...and she has learned to beg for treats, she'll run right up to you and start hopping in place over and over until she gets a treat...just like my dog

Needless to say, she always ends up with the most mealworms, you can't help but feed her first when she's right there hopping!

BRs have always been my favorite chicken since I was a little girl (reason unknown). I just got chickens this spring and I have 4 24 week-old pullets right now named Larry, Darryl, Darryl, and Darryl b/c I couldn't tell them apart when they were small. Maybe it's because they were my first chickens (I got 8 more assorted chicks 2 weeks after them) but they have been unfailingly friendly and run to the door to greet me or jump up on the roost next to me when I come in the coop. They always talk to me and will fly up and sit in my lap when I hang out in there. I don't know about their egg-laying abilities yet other than what I've read but I wouldn't trade them for anything and will always have BRs in my flock from now on.

I have a barred rock roo, i raised since a chick, he attacks anyone and everyone esept for me, if someone comes near me he attacks, i love it, he follows me around the yard like a puppy, i call him he comes running, sooo cute, but he also thinks im his girl. ha ha
