Yet another popular breed. These guys are my favorite. I just love their personalities. Penguin my BR chick is such a spoiled one1 Every night at approx 7:30 (when the kids go to bed, can they tell time? LOL) She/He starts cheeping just as loud as she can till I let her out of the brooder to come in the bedroom to snuggle with DH on the bed (Please note DH states that he hates chickens and that I'm totally insane for keeping them in the house lol) or sit on my shoulder and of course help me read BYC. Anyone else care to chime in on the merits of this breed? Disadvantages they may have?

I have had two. First was Nightingale, the single most wonderful chicken ever. She loved to be held and snuggled, would sit on your feet until you would pick her up. She was only 7 months old when she was killed by an unknown predator.

Next is Star. He is a 10 week old cockerel. He already tries to act protective of the other chickens, is super sweet to me and the kids, is just a little dream pre-roo. From what I can tell, Barred Rocks are just PERFECT!!!

My absolute favorite breed! My sweet, sociable rooster Hawkeye passed recently and we miss him so much. His sons will take over the flock when Zane heals up and his little baby brothers, Dutch and Mace, get old enough. I have 8 BR hens laying and 2 more in the nursery coop coming along, so the BRs make up 1/3 of my entire mixed laying flock. Curious, friendly, sociable, excellent layers and pretty well camouflaged in the oak litter on the woods floor where they freerange.

I must say the BR that we have are certainly entertaining!
DD picked out 5 pullets because she liked the coloring and I thought okay but wasn't impressed at first.
Ha! They have been so cute and totally outgoing! I have named every one of them Trouble! They are only 3 weeks old but of all the 70 some odd chicks we have they always greet us by flying up on the sides of the brooder box. They are always the first to come clammer around my feet when I go into the coop and they are the first ones to climb up on the frozen water bottle every day when I take them down to the coop.
The Jersey Giants used to come around a bit but they sure haven't kept up like these BR. And I have Partridge Rocks the same age that are really not as outgoing but they are sure fire hot on a mouse!

I've got 3 pullets and 2 cockerels and as others have said they are very friendly. One of the pullets always comes and jumps in my lap when I am with them. The others are just indifferent of me. My EE's and NHR's are real attention cravers and are always in my business. The BR's are not aggressive but not craving attention either. The one cockerel is really coming into his own and quite a looker. Sadly the cockerels have to go to new homes. Any takers? Photos listed in a buy sell trade thread.
