I'm new here and just got my first chickens this year. They are almost 5 months old and was wondering when to expect them to start laying.

Thanks. I have 5 barred rocks 3 white leghorns 3 brown leg horns and 1 RIR. I figured they should of started by now. Any ideas?

By the looks of that comb they should be laying soon. A nice red comb in a pullet at this age is usually an indication that they will start laying soon, most likely in the next few weeks. Just like in humans, some take a little longer to mature than others. The same can be said for different breeds of chicken. Do you have them on a good layer feed and oyster shell?

Yeah we have them on a layers feed and shells. They have been on it for almost a month now

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. Most pullets start laying from 20-25 weeks, but some can take a little longer. At 5 months, your pullets should be very close to laying. If you haven't done so already, definitely check out our Learning Center at https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center. There is loads of useful information there. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck in getting those eggs.
