Hello I don't know why but my barred rocks are developing white spots and losing their color. Is this normal?

Some of them are more white around the necks than others but the one I posted pics of is really bad. Seems fine and healthy just don't know what's going on.

OK, thanks for the information. They are not Barred Rocks. They are crosses involving a barred bird, that much seems certain, but all the white lacing about the neck and now plain white emerging everywhere shows their outcross to be obvious.

If you got them for layers, it won't matter a whole bunch.

This is crazy because one of my TSC Barred Rocks ended up being a mixed breed also. Here she is. The other seems to be a true barred rock.

TSC re-sells hatchery grade stock. They aren't "true bred" as in bred to standard in any case, none of them.

That said, even for hatchery stock, TSC got a boat load of mix/mutts this year, it appears to me, just a casual observer here on BYC. I've never seen so many mixed birds sold as Barred Rocks as this year, and I answer a ton of posts on the subject.

Look, they're likely going to be good layers and backyard birds. If you want true bred, sharp barred, classic, heritage lines of Barred Rocks, you aren't going to ever get them from a feed store or TSC. You need to get them from someone passionate about the breed and someone who breeds them to standard.

Enjoy your egg laying birds, everyone. Keep them healthy and they'll pay you back with lots of eggs.

Oh thanks everyone! A lot of my birds i have no idea what they are because they do have so many traits of others so trying to figure out what they are has been a bit of a challenge.

I just got mine for eggs and I thought having chickens might be fun. When I stated a true barred rock, I did not by any means try to suggest she is great quality, just a barred rock is what I meant. I know and understand that my pullet is hatchery quality. Thanks
