What do you get when a chicken carries both barred and laced (patterned) genes? Just curious. I have some cross breed eggs hatching soon and some are from a SL Wyandotte over a BR hen. I know only the cockerels will get the barred gene from that pairing, just curious what they will look like.

Would love to see that too. The cross won't show much or very good lacing- lacing is due to a combination of several different genes, and also good lacing depends on being pure for at least several of those genes too.

Still, might be some surprises. I have a 'free range surprise' chick that has surprisingly decent lacing for a mutt.. and especially considering i don't have any laced birds running free range. It appears to be a male, but doesn't appear to have barring despite the 'mother' is a cuckoo- has to be either a female or another hen laid in her nest. Darn.
