Bash me, I'm new

Welcome!!!

This place treats newbies well, hardly any bashing. We all just love chickens and are glad to share the addiction.....2 or three more is not enough. Next year you;ll have at least 10.

Well it depends, what day of incubation are they on? But when they are about a week old, look for veins, and a big black eye, and may even see the embryo move.

Depends on the day. Anything a few days old would have veins started. I candled around Day 6-7 and saw an embryo rolling around. It just gets bigger and bigger, the veins get thicker and sometimes they're harder to see into.
Good luck candling

WOW! Eggs need to be harvested every day huh?

(told you I was new)

On a side note, I've stayed home all day to do paperwork on my laptop and have watched my RIR's in the backyard and they are so much fun to watch. They have been in their coop for almost 2 weeks now and they have certainly called it home. Before I got it built, I would let them roam around the backyard which they did. They would go all over the yard. Now, they stay right around the chicken house even when the bottom door is open.

That's a nice little coop, it looks like it could hold more birds though

Why did you ask about candleing? Do you have eggs in the incubator?

Yeah, that's what I keep telling Mrs. Firebug. She's not convinced but she does think silkies are pretty cool

. I'm thinking barred rocks would be much better since they would cross well with the RIR's but beggers can't be choosers!

I'm planning ahead. My babies are almost 11 weeks so I'm not going to be a grandpa just yet.
