Bat!!

My youngest just came running in to tell me that her brother caught a bat on the wall outside! How cool is that?? I'm so glad to know they are so close by. Its just a tiny little thing. I have no idea what kind it is. I believe it lives in the Sable Palms out back. My son says he wants to release it tonight. What do you guys all think?

Yes I would release it back into the wild. The sooner the better. You could also put up bat houses if you want. Thats what I plan on doing soon.

I love bats!! They are fascinating, beneficial creatures. I'd definitely keep it safe then release it tonight.

thanks guys. Thats what we plan to do. I also like that bat house idea too. I was thinking of that!

never, EVER should anyone handle a bat w/o gloves! That being said, release the bat and instruct your children to leave bats alone when they see them. They are wonderful, beneficial creatures to have around, so you might want to invest in a bat box put up high on a pole or side of a building or tree, and paint the top black. They not only tolerate, but love high temperatures.
