Good luck with your hatch... Is this your first quail? I tend to spend too much time watch'in them the first few weeks after they hatch. Quail T.V. if you will...

Bill
Well hatched 1 last week. He seems to have ADHD, or maybe this is natural for them? Anyways, he was a test quail And what is it with the cat food? I was told by a vet her to give wet cat food to my other chicks, chicken chicks, and I gave some to my spazzing quail chick also. Is this a no no? I only give it as a treat and extra protein boost. Does it matter if it's organic?
Well welcome to quail! The cat food is a long running joke, mostly humor but has truth to t as well. most cat food is really high in salt. I feel you'll be much better off feeding your game birds, quail especially, Game bird starter at 28 to 30 % protein. save the cat food for the chickens or maybe even the cat!!
... Save the treats till there older... Oh and the ADHD is normal. more so for a lone quail or Bobwhite. Put a feather duster in the brooder, just a cheap one leaned up in the corner. will help him feel more secure and calm him down some. Good luck and welcome aboard. Bill
It just dawned on me your from Sweden. You may not be able to get the high protein game bird starter over there. I'm sure the cat food is not the best option for your quail thou. Fat and salt is way off for there needs, Lots of folks go the meal worm route to up protein too... But thats a whole other joke... Good luck Bill

Sweden is picky about additives in food. The cat food was not recommended for daily feeding. I got the little dude on a high protein meal. He does get eggs sometimes. And he does have a brooder mate, a chicken They look hilarious together. The chicken was hatched 1 day later, but the two are life mates, I tell ya. The quail is called Chick Noris. He was a third the size of the chicken, but now he is about half the size, as he grows faster. I do feed him meal worms, about 3 a day. Is that not good? I have 3 adult quail, and the person I got them from recommended feeding them, even any chicks, meal worms. Plus I have a bag of dried small bugs that I can mix with the eggs. Please tell me I'm not damaging my little guy/girl.
