Bath tub brooding

I set up a kiddie pool with shavings and welded wire around the outside for when they started getting more agile.
I don't think the tub would work long term as it gets poopy and smelly right quick.
So, one - what are your plans after they are done with the brooder?
Two - what are your day time and night time temps right now?
Good for you for getting everything in order before you get them.
Oh and how many ducklings?

Well to answer your first question... I haven’t quite built the coop/run yet. So I was hoping to bang that out whilst the ducklings were growing indoors. I would have built the coop first, but I had only a short time before there was no longer an opportunity to get the breeds I wanted. I have drawn up the plan on autocad and I bought the wood for the frame. I’m away from home so I can’t show the plan yet. But I will.

To answer question two... We are in the 80’s or 90’s during the day and in the 70’s at night. I keep my house at about 74 inside.

And I’m getting four Indian runners. Three chocolate females and one black Drake.

@onaharley both had really cool setups for their duckling when they brooded them.

The bathtub is 21w(floor measurement), 42long(floor measurement ), and 19 inches tall. Again it widens in width and length as you move away from the floor of the bath tub.

I think the tub will work as a start. But be in the planning for setup 2 . Runners grow fast but it's up not out so you have plenty of time. They still will be very messy so that will probably send you to your second larger brooder faster. By 3 weeks they should be able to go outside with temps in the mid to high 70's at night. Keep us updated. And be sure to have a thermometer for the brooder so you can keep track of the heat in the brooder.

I asked that because ducks don't need as much heat. If you get them outdoors to play and such the first few weeks and if you have the coop and run ready, you can move them outdoors. So, whichever brooder set up you choose could potentially be very temporary.

Does anyone know is Coop N Compost is safe in a duckling's brooder set-up? I'm just trying to keep my options open. I saw it a TSC and was curious.

That claw foot tub is to die for. I may not have the heart to poop it up, even temporarily.

Probably,(never had ducks but use it for chicks in brooder and on poop boards in coop) but you wouldn't want to wash it down your tub drain.
All that stuff is is zeolite.....much cheaper to buy it as Sweet PDZ in the horse aisle.

That is the same thing as pdz which is more economical bought from the horse section. However, I was told not to use it in the duckling brooder. I do however use it in the duck house now that they are older.
