I heard a chicken needs a bath at least 3 days before the show to give their feathers time to fluff/plump back up. I gave my show chickens a bath a couple days ago but I didn't have a cage I could put them in to keep them to clean so I just let them free and hoped for the best. They are already dirty (droppings in their feathers). My question is can I give them a bath tonight (the show is tomorrow) or is the theory about 3 days before true?

Sure you can give them another bath. We didn't know any better the first year DD showed at the fair, and we were bathing them the day they were to be taken to the fairgrounds, LOL.

They'll be clean and pretty, just might not have the sheen they would have had in their feathers. Good luck at the show and have fun

Yes. You can bathe them tonight with no worries.

Just be sure you really blow them dry. No more damp at all. The birds will preen their feathers back into place and will look just fine. Just put them straight into the nice clean carriers with lots of fluffy bedding and they will stay nice for you.

I always bathe the day before, but in the morning so they have all day to dry and they look quite nice and clean. I've found that they even have more of a shine to them this way. And my white birds sparkle.
