Horse/dog shampoo is better than human shampoo. Also, keep them inside or blow dry until they are completely dry before putting them outside or in the coop.

I haven't needed to bathe any of my chickens (yet) but I use Murphy's Oil Soap on the dogs. Seems to be very gentle on their skin and coats - and smells nice too.
