I've only ever bathed one chicken before, so I wouldn't be sure. However, different soaps are suggested. A dirty chicken may need to be cleaned up with detergent used by people cleaning up animals after oil spills (Dawn is one brand used). If you chicken is just a little muddy then plain water will do.

Silkies absorb water more than other breeds so they must be kept dry for a long time. Make sure you dry it with a towel and than keep it inside, where it is warm, for at least a few hours. If it is cool outside you may want to keep it in for longer. This will also prevent it getting anything stuck to its wet feathers.

You can use an old toothbrush to clean up the feet and feathers and to help brush them back into place.

Hope this helps.

Best of luck!
