Bator question

Thanks so much for your help.

I really haven't posted much here. But have had my birds for two years now.

Everything I know about chickens I learned here.

Ya'll have made me an expert.

Now I need to learn about hatching.

Thanks again.

It's a fun place and even tho I've had chickens 30+ years seems like I'm always learning something new. Lots of nice people here to offer help if we need it!

I should warn you tho that the hatching thing is very addictive....

. Hatching your own chicks is waaaay more fun than ordering them!!

And what do you do with 40 new chicks every 8 weeks?

That's 240 chicks a year.

Well

That sounds like a good idea.

I do like BBQ chicken.

I may raise replacements for my small flock and eat the rest.

Thx.

The current flock:

He is an RIR

He oversees

1 - GLW, 2 - SLW, 2- RIRs, 4 - Buff Orp

They are dual purpose, so I may do that.

I free-range raise Buff orp cockerels from egg and they dress out to 6-6.5 lbs before I wash and Ice them down. B O hens are fairly productive egg layers as long as the temp stays above 45 and they get 15 hrs minimum of light

Yes.

I like the BO's

This is the end of my 2nd year.

I free range them also. So we lose a few each year.

That's why I have various mixed breeds on the outer paddocks. Let the vermin attack those birds and I'll give them acute lead poisoning with a 30 caliber dose! I have a small farm(25 acres) and I grow veggies and fruit, chickies, goats cows, ducks and some killer-attack geese.
