As someone with a HUGE soft spot for poultry, especially chickens trapped in the commercial battery business, I have wanted to provide a home for battery hens for a long time. After some research on how to care for them—which is beyond simple, surprisingly—I realized I have no idea where to even begin to look!
I live in Southern Ontario, Canada. And by southern I mean I live 45 minutes from the US border! I am willing to drive up to 4-5 hours away to collect these poor babies as well so distance isn’t an issue.
Anyways, does anyone have any idea where I may be able to find these hens? Anyone have any contact information, or know what I should expect when going about finding a place that is willing to let them go? I don’t mind spending even $15-$20 if I can at least take a whole battery cage home.
I don’t mind trial and error, but I find asking in these forums makes it easier to get a direct answer rather than something vague or more difficult due to my location. So any information helps!
