Oh my gosh. Unbelievable. Thank you for the information and thank you for rescueing these poor little sweeties. Very sad. I hope she gets better and I would love to see a photo of her when she gets healthy. Thank you so much!

You can tell that she is happy-she was saved! Great pictures... it's really sad how these wonderful animals can wind up like this.

Looking at the picture again, I've never seen a battery hen look that bad... I've only seen pictures though. Before and after pictures would be VERY good to have.

Read this thread last night. Today I was out and about, sitting in a waiting room bidding my time for my apt. Picked up one of those local Free classified ad magazines. Looking through the Livestock/farm animals and Accessories ads. Low and Behold an ad concerning rescued chickens from a commercial farm, processing factory had taken all the wanted. Says they are looking to place them in family groups of 5 hens and 1 rooster.

It gives Choctaw Ridge Farms Rescue with a 601 area code number. 601 is Mississippi.

I will PM the op with the complete number, I don't want to post on internet. Or if one of you want the number PM me.


Uhhhhh!!! Interesting. CHOCTAW RIDGE Mississippi. You know nuthin ever come to no good up on choctaw ridge, cause Billy Joe McCallister done jumped off the Tallahatchee Bridge. Bobbie Gentry sure could sing.

Hi all, my landlady wanted to get me started out and went out and bought me 10 battery hens. I thought that she was nuts cause of the condition that they were in, however, with alittle bit of research found out that the little girls deserved a good life after what they were used too. However, I am in way over my head here, they are a whole new kettle of fish and what you would expect is not what happens.

I really want to get these girls well on their way. But sure need loads of help. I am hoping that there are people out there that can help me along the way? Since I have had then their feathers are filling in, thank goodness. My major issue right now is that they have never seen their own eggs before or for that matter no ones else's and are pecking them apart. I have no idea what is missing in their diet. Someone said that they may need more calcium, however, I was also told that where they were before they were medicated right to the hilt. I guess I could say that I am weaning them a bit.

I really could use some further information how to raise these girls and what to expect from them and also hoping that someone could write me or the thread what their experiences were with theirs.
