(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I first got chickens last fall, six of them. I had a predator get three of my ladies in August, which was traumatic but a learning experience. I just acquired four young silkies though!

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Currently, I have seven. I live in the city though and at least one of the silkies is a rooster so he'll have to go back to the farm soon.

(3) What breeds do you have?
I currently have one black australorp (Dolores), two Rhode Island Reds (Helen and Wynonna), and four silkies (Tammy, Tina, Latrice Royale, and Janet).

I previously had another black australorp (Gertrude, who stole my heart) and two barred rocks.

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
Anytime I've had a question about chickens, the forums always come up first in Google searches. Eventually I just started coming straight here for all of my answers! Such a great community with so many helpful and kind people.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I enjoy vegetable gardening, as well as walking my dog and being involved in community building in my neighborhood. I'm also a big fan of good television and good food.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
My family is me, my dog Jefferson, and my cat Honey Bear. Honey Bear likes to watch the chickens from a window in the back room. Jefferson ignores the chickens unless I'm outside, and then he tries to herd them as I yell at him to stop.
I love my little "urban farm" and am always looking for new ways to be a kinder and better to our planet and the other species who live here.

G’Day from down under Bbbbavers :frow Welcome!

So sorry to hear of your loss. I hope fond memories bring some comfort.

Love the pics, so adorable! :love

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

Personally, I have found the Topic of the Week articles a great resource and a one stop shop for questions which may have already been discussed within the BYC membership group.

If you would like to share more pictures and stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)
