Bay Leaves to Prevent Bugs?

I just pruned my bay tree and recalled that putting a few bay leaves in flour will prevent bugs. Would bay leaves prevent bugs in nest boxes and coop? Or would the chickens try to eat them?

* Sounds intriguing. Maybe try lining the bottom of the nestbox with them *under* the straw?? Keep us posted; I'd like to know how well it works.
