A leg injury from fresh hatch

I have a first with a current hatch and I’m confused

I have a chick that was hatched. Noticed blood all in the incubator and figured one hatched to early. Well it was coming from the joint on its leg. It looks swollen and bruised. It’s not bleeding anymore. However I had to separate it because it can’t straighten the leg so it can’t walk. I’m not sure what to do for the little guy. These were from shipped eggs.

I have to admit, I was a little confuse about the type of chick until I realized I was looking at your fingernails.

For the chick...it can't straighten the leg b/c of the injury or b/c of something else?

For the injury, I would wash it with a good cleaner - diluted betadine or clorhexidine and apply triple antibiotic ointment 2x daily (use one w/out pain killer in it). I would also keep this little one in the brooder, but separated by some wire or other means so that it is kept close to the other chicks and will still be part of the "flock".

How old is it? What are you feeding them? Are they able to get warm when needed yet have enough room to get out of the heat if they need to? Just fishing here.

It just hatched yesterday still in incubator. I tried to straighten the leg but there was a lot of resistance so I didn’t force it. It hatched like this.

Are the legs splayed?

Perhaps some vitamins are in order?

I’m going to give vitamins when I get home. Not splay legged

It is always good to give a chick vitamin with riboflavin (b2) on the label, or 1/4 tablet of human b complex crushed in drops of water given by dropper. Many chicks are born with leg issues, such as a slipped tendon or leg bone deformities. The scab could indicate slipped tendon. Those are treated as a day old, and sometimes it is difficult to successfully treat them. You can try vitamins and use a chick sling, and work with the leg to check for slipped tendon and to get it back in place. Here are some links on slipped tendon and slings:
