I have a blue copper maran that was bit by a dog the other day, she has pretty decent wounds, but not terrible at all. But she got bit on her leg, it’s been 3 days I believe, today her leg is pretty swollen at the top of the thigh, she obviously bruised. But it’s swollen, yellow, and slightly warm.

My man concern aside from treating her wounds is infection. I do have clindamycin that was prescribed for my cat, would I be able fie this to her? Should I?

I’ve cleaned her wounds with saline, silver honey, and I’m going to use iodine next. We’re currently redoing our bathroom so I’m unable to wash her like I’d like 😞 but I plan on soaking her the best I can

I would look for any puncture wounds from fangs. Those can abscess and cause pain and infection. Cleaning them and getting them to drain is important. Cleaning the wound with saline or a wound spray, Betadine, or chlorhexidene, then appkying plain triple antibiotic ointment is good twice anday. Clindamycin is good for bone or tooth infections. Vet care is always good if possible. Can she stand and walk? Make sure that she can get to food and water.

Yup, she can stand, walk/limp, jump up to roost & is eating and drinking. There’s no smell coming from her either. Her leg wasn’t swollen yesterday, but like most injuries, days after it gets worse :(
I unfortunately just lost my job so I cannot spend any extra money, I’ve dealt w a lot of wounds from other chickens, but nothing from a dog, so I know basic care but whe it comes to infection I’m totally lost. How would I drain it? Like I would a wound on myself? I’ll double check her again when I go to soak her, I think I’ve got 95% of the wounds cleaned & with SH on it.
Thank you for your reply!

Spraying the wounds with sterile saline twice a day is good for cleansing, should not need to soak her. Then blot dry with a clean towel and coat with plain triple antibiotic ointment to keep moist. Be sure ointment does not contain pain reliever and she should heal up just fine.

I’m using plain saline, I made a mix last time but forgot exactly what I used. Do you think regular saline should be fine?

To make sterile saline, boil the water first then cool it. You want it sterile so you don't introduce contaminants into the wound and cause an infection. Do you need the formula?

This is what AI says but I'm going to disagree a bit. My comments will be in bold.

How to Make Saline Solution at Home
To make a simple saline solution at home, thoroughly clean a container and mix 1 teaspoon of non-iodized salt with 1 quart of boiled or distilled water. (me: add a pinch of baking soda, then it won't sting) For a sterile solution, boil the water for at least 10 minutes, let it cool, and then combine with the salt, avoiding any additives. Ensure all equipment is clean and store the solution in an airtight container, discarding it after 24 hours for the safest results. me: If you put it in a spray bottle, be sure it's nice and clean.

Usually an abscess will feel puffy like a boil, and many times they break open and drain on their own. That has been the way when my dogs or cats have suffered bite wounds from a cat. Are there any teeth marks where the swelling is most? Saline is fine to clean the wound. Saline can be made with 2 tsp salt in a quart of water. If you would see teeth marks, that is the only time I would use peroxide to clean and fizz out any bacteria. But it has probably already closed up if there was one.
