Hi everyone. I’m currently treating my two silkie chicks (about 7 weeks) on baytril 10% for what I believe is MG. I have them orally about .25 ML yesterday night. My question is, is baytril twice a day or just once a day? And should they be taking it straight or should I have mixed it with water and then given them it? Also, I read differing things about if I should ever eat their eggs or not. Granted they won’t lay for a while now, but when they do is it safe for me to eat?

I’m not sure about the dosage for liquid Baytril but the reason with the mixed messages about the eggs is because Baytril “ciprofloxacin/enrofloxacin” isn’t prescribed for poultry and is used off label for avians in general so there aren’t studies that have determined if there’s a withdrawal time, in other words if a vet prescribes it they just say “never eat the eggs” to protect themselves because of legal reasons.
So I don’t know what the withdrawal time would be but in humans Cipro leaves the system 22 hours after last dosage, maybe it’s overkill but 2 weeks seems like a safe bet to say nothing is in those eggs.

Awesome thank you! They won’t be laying for another few months 👍🏼

Baytril 10% liquid dose is 0.05ml per pound of weight given orally 2 times a day for 5 days.

You gave .25ml so, you have 7 week old chicks that weigh 5 pounds?!

Baytril is not approved for use in poultry, so it's a good idea to look up guideline on FARAD. Since these are (7wk old?) chicks, I would say that the medication would not be an issue by the time they begin laying eggs.

Mycoplasma symptoms are commonly treated with Tylosin (it can be ordered online) for which there is only a 1 day withdrawal period. Denagard (Tiamulin) is another antibiotic that is use to treat MG, there is no withdrawal period.
