Hi I'm new to BYC.I live on long island and want to get a small backyard flock.In the spring i would like to convert to convert a rabbit cage i built into a chicken coop. the dimensions are 8 feet long by 7 feet wide.The main question i have is this a sufficient amount of room for 10 to 12 chickens?The run i want to connect to it will be 7 feet wide by 20 feet long,is this sufficient space?

First,

The rule of thumbs four square feet per bird in the coop, so 8*7 equals 56 square feet. That is enough room 14 adult chickens. However, chickens should have 10 sq. feet per bird in the run. Your run 7*20 and it equals 140 sq feet. Your coop and run is big enough for 14 chickens. Good luck with your chicken adventures!
