I have BBS Orpingtons chicks and can only keep one rooster, which color roo should I keep with my BBS pullets?

Hm, I would actually keep a black. You'll want to breed blue and splash hens back to a black roo to keep the edging good, so if you can only keep one roo keep a black roo.

I would say it depends on what you are looking for.

If you want to produce B/B/S chicks, then it has to be a blue rooster.

What are you looking to do?

I am looking to produce some nice Blue and Black chicks. I will definitely keep the best one for type for the color I choose.

I would do Blue x Blue because the blue is the hardest color to perfect. That way you know what the lacing is like in the parent stock . There is an Ameraucana breeder that only keeps blues for their breeding pens just because of the lacing issue. He will show the offspring regardless of color but to perfect the blue he keeps only blue because of lacing and type of course.
