BCM hatched out YELLOW! ???

My shipped BCM eggs hatched today, and two of them are YELLOW, not black. The breeder only has black copper marans, no other color marans or chicken breeds. What's up with this????

Sounds like you got yourself a couple Wheaton Marans!

Oh, so is wheaten a recessive that can hide in a visually black bird?

Yea one of the strains was crossed with wheaten marans when they first came over to get the egg color darker. So now if you get the right birds together you get wheaten marans.
