Just curious what the general personality is like. I know they are a "friendly" breed, but that's a broad tent. I have just one. She's 13 weeks and pretty chill let's me pick her up no problem. What I'm wondering is if they are generally indifferent to their people or if it's just her personality. I'm one that more often than not ends up with lap birds. I have 4 littles, in this batch, the other 3 seek me out and snuggle in my lap; she couldn't care less, which is fine. I'm just curious if it's her or the breed in general. The others are EEs and a barred rock "bonus chick", who's a cockeral. My roos have tended toward being lap birds too 💕 Thanks!

I've raised several groups of BCM over the past few years, and it really seems (to me, anyway) to depend on the lines. The first group I had was aloof, so I thought that might be characteristic of the breed. I hatched a different (unrelated) group and they were - to my surprise - cuddly and very people-oriented. Another group from a different source is reasonably friendly, but not as people-oriented as the last group I hatched. The last group is very curious, constantly chatting at me, and even the rooster isn't averse to being handled. The girls lay amazingly dark eggs, too - it's such a treat to have them!

Since you have just the one, and it's unclear how long she's been with you (was she shipped to you as a chick?), it's difficult to draw a conclusion about nature vs. nurture. With the chicks I've hatched, though, their personalities manifested quickly, and they were all reared similarly.

Bribery and patience may help her come around. 😉 If not, don't give up on the breed - some really are very friendly!

Hatchery chick(meyer), day old. She may change when she hits puberty, but for her it's definitely her nature, or maybe it's personal and she just doesn't like me 😘 I wouldn't call her unfriendly and she tolerates being picked up. She's not a bad bird. The ones that you had, that were cuddly, were they breeder stock?

I hope she'll warm up with time - surely, it's not about you. 😄 On the plus side, the less-friendly birds seem less likely to get picked off by predators. BCM tend to be high-status birds in my flock, too.

The cuddly ones were/are breeder stock...and so were the less-cuddly ones. 🤷‍♀️
