BCM Roo x Buff Orpington, BCM Roo x RIR, BCM Roo x Barred Rock

About whether ya should brood the chicks or let her ? I usually incubate my eggs but sometimes let a hen bate em ( their hatch rate is usually higher), but I always brood my chicks in a 4'x4' brooder box with a 150 watt lamp (' in the summer I use a 100 or 60 watt depending on how hot it is). A little more work but so much safer to me. I do havea separate pen next to the main flock for reintegration though. It's usually an individual thing weighing the work you can commit to and the value of your chicks to ya, and conditions you're set up for.

I have a question about the alpha roo. The bird in the picture is silver. I do not know how a person could get a silver bird from a cross where both parents are gold.

This is a BCM over a BO , my year old Alpha Roo. I'm in the process of uploading pics of some of his offspring (slowly but surely) in my public album.

The odd colored chick is the buff orpington cross.

Thank you Chicken Obsessed! Any idea if the little red one is a BCM roo x Buff or a BCM roo x RIR?

My coop is 50' x 25' so I'm hoping that gives the mother and chicks enough free range to keep them safe. So far, she's doing a great job of keep the other chickens (10 of them) at bay.

Here's my latest pictures... they are just over 1 week old.

All 7 with Mom:

BCM x Barred Rock:

BCM x Buff Orpington:

BCM x RIR:

Here's one that I'm not too sure about yet. Has a lot of BCM in her.. check out her legs/feet, only 1 toe is yellow.

The chicks are now just over 3 weeks old.. here's some pics:

BCMxRIR - I love the coloring on this one... beautiful!!

BCMxBuff Orpington

BCMx?? - This one has black legs/feet, black beak and check out the comb, it's coming in black. so very cool.

Do you have any current pics of you BCMxBR? Did the barred ones turn out to be boys?

I just hatched a mixed batch and some are BCMxBR. I know I hatched 5 of those, but only 2 chicks look black, some are more grey, and one has a head spot, so I know that's a boy. They are in with some mixed EE/Ameraucana blue/black chicks, and I thought I could tell them apart by the beards, but only 2 for sure don't look bearded
