Hi I just got my first 4 chicks 3 weeks ago and one is developing pretty severe cross beak where here upper and lower beak do not meet. She is still eating and drinking but eats very frequently. Still seems to be gaining weight. I feel like I should give her a chance but not sure what the most humane thing to do is. Any suggestions? Thanks

I have a two year old hen with a severe cross beak. She eats a lot more than the others as it takes a lot more time to get the same amount of food for her. I have a smaller sized flock that free ranges so there's never competition but in the winter when the weather is bad I sometimes have to separate her so I know she gets enough food. Depending on your situation you may have to cull, but if you keep your eye on her and check that she is gaining weight she could be just fine.

I also have a 5 week old EE chick with a severely crossed beak. It eats well if I wet the food and put it in a deeper dish; so I do that 2-3 tmes a day. This chick is so determined to live that I will give it my best help. Its very small but is growing and very active. It is the friendliest and most curious of the bunch. Hope she turns out to be a pullet.
