beak problem

I have a 10 year old (yes 10!) Buff Orp. I noticed some blackening and scaling at the base of her lower beak. It looks almost like a scab. The beak is slightly discolored, but it looks like the bump is getting a little bigger. She is eating fine and pooping fine and doesn't feel like she has lost any weight. I am out of town Tues through Friday, so I didn't see it before. I hate taking her to the vet if she isn't in pain. It's so stressful on her. Thank you.
