Well it's a sad morning. A bear attacked and rolled out small coop with 7 bunnies about 8yards. Found one dead, three alive and well. :) my other coop with a broody and babies was destroyed. Luckily the enclosure was fine and so wasnt mama and babies. When moving them the broody wouldn't let me remove her until the babies were out. She pitched a fit but after I got the babies she let me pick her up without a fuss. Great mama she is.

Bunnies were my daughters and we just got them on Saturday. I am hoping we fine the others in when woods behind the house, but not likely. Pics below

Grey with bunnies and the brown one had the chicks and broody. We had to break the door on the broody coop to get them out.

Pick of paw prints is on the new coop we just put the flock in there about a week ago. They would have been on the grey coop. And we wouldn't have ad the bunnies if the big one wasnt finished.

So sorry. Nothing much is going to stop a bear except a powerful electric fence.

I've got a bear taking my garbage every week or so. Hasn't messed with the coop yet. Hot wire is in the works.

seems strange.. most bears eat berries fish garbage bird seeds, etc. the bear must have been pretty hungry to have attacked those rabbits.. good luck with your bunnies!

A bear will eat wild game as well as livestock. Yes, they eat grasses and berries, but deer, turkey, rabbits are often hunted and taken by bears. A chicken coop is no different to a bear then it is too a fox.

So sorry for your loss. I hope you find the remaining bunnies. And I agree that the electric fence is the only way to keep the bears away. Bee keepers in my area use electric fence to protect their hives from the local bears. Fortunately no bears in my backyard (yet). Although I know it could happen.

Sorry, most bears around my area rarely eat livestock we have no brown bears just black bears (if you're talking about brown bears) might be no different!

We only have black bears. Thinking hard about the electric fence now.. we did fine one more bunny but it was injured bad so hubs had to put it down. So sad.. haven’t seen the other two. I do think it was the feed the drew it in. There was a lot of feed spilt and soured I think that is the cause of it showing up. (It smelled real dad.. We haven had any trouble and we have had those coops for two years now.

Needless the chickens have new roommates the three bunnies moved in. Now I have to get smaller wire to put around the new coop to keep them in. They are small and go right threw the fence. I was thinking of doing it anyway to keep chicks from going threw also. Now I sort of have to.
