Bear tried to break down the barn door - now what

Quote: It actually could kill someone, since he didn't use a FENCE charger.
Any strong continuous shock can stop a heart

Electricity isn't something to play with

Quote: That doesn't change anything at all.
It's still foolish to rig up a makeshift, potentially dangerous booby trap

I doubt the bear is trying to use the handle to open the door anyway

Quote: I have MILES of electric fencing, and I know you can't attach the wires directly to the wooden posts without them shorting.

As someone that has been burglarized several times, if it killed them, its one less criminal to worry about.

We live with bears, mountain lions, etc. We've always used an electric fence with great results - and not very expensive.
We put a game camera up on our last chicken coop that was tucked under our deck (we weren't allowed to have chickens, so they were "pet exotic fowl").
Anyway, got two pics of the bear, one of the front and then bear porn (backside shot) since he couldn't get thru fence :)
This is also the bear that climbed 15 feet up a small Aspen to take out our bird feeder, so was hungry & determined.
Hated loosing the bird feeder, but would have really hated loosing any of our girls.

Last resort time. The bear will come back over and over again. If animal control gives you the ok the bear should be put down.

Why do people ask for permission to protect their private property?
That's slave mentality.
If you had a man break into your home in the middle of the night and was attacking and threatening the safety of your family,
1. would you phone the police and ask them permission to shot the attacker?
2. would you let the man finish what he came there to do?
3. would you shot the attacker to protect your family?

Here is another way at looking at this issue.
You can't shot a bear because the government claims ownership of them.
If you want their permission to shot a bear you have to follow their set of codes they created and pay them money.
Even if you followed their codes you still have to pay them money other wise they will say you did not have permission to act.
So by paying a amount of money you get a privilege to act and shot one of the government bears.
This shows us that the government is claiming ownership of the bears.

Well what happens to you if you claimed ownership of an animal and you let it room around freely and damage other peoples property?
You buy a pack of pit bulls and let them run around the neighborhood killing peoples live stock.
But if one of those neighbors shots one of your pit bulls you charge them with destroying property that was not their to destroy and you sue them in court for damages.
You claim that they could not kill your pit bull because they did not have permission or consent to act.
And the pit bull was in its rights to kill your livestock property because they were hungry and you wrote up a piece of paper that says its ok for your pit bulls to do this and that's what gives the dogs the right to act.

Sounds crazy doesn't it?
That is exactly what the government does. And most of the people just sit there and will ask permission from their handlers to act.

Because the government claims ownership of the wild animals through licensing then the government is liable for all and any damages their claimed property does.
If you shot one of their animals destroying your property and they charge you with a crime, the proper thing to do is counterclaim damages.
If you do not want to shot their animal then you need to put in a claim for damages that their animal has done.
And hold them liable for all and any future damages.

Believe it or not but the government has a special fund for this for the people that understand how their ******** claims go.

I have heard of the DNR having to compensate for dogs and livestock killed by wolves, I never though of it for bears or other animals. I don't know how well that would work though, since the government claims ownership of whitetailed deer and those deer cause millions of dollars worth of auto damage every year, the gov't doesn't have to pay for that?

There's bears in Mass? I never seen one in CT..
Oh yes there are.
