Bearded/Muffed and Tufted?

Quote:
Embryos with two copies of the tufting gene will die in the shell. Otherwise, it's no biggie. And seriously, it is the standard in other countries for araucanas to have both tufts and beards/muffs.

Phhhhht.

I was shipped 15 bantam araucana eggs about a month ago. Here's how the box arrived:

Despite the box being crushed, only 2 of the eggs were cracked. And last week, I hatched out 6 healthy chicks.

, oh, the PO followed those instructions to a T!
glad they did well

Well, I have some araucana in the bator right now, hopefully lots hatch....you almost got 50%, that is awesome for araucana.
I have 3 lav splits in the bator that I am crossing my fingers.....and toes......and anything else I can manage

I was happy to get ANY to hatch out of that box.

But yup, I'm generally getting about 50% hatch with shipped eggs, araucana or other.

My own eggs are not nearly so fertile, unfortunately. But mine are mostly not developing at all. It's not the fault of the tufting gene, in my case. I'm running about 50% double tufted in my own chicks, when they do manage to develop.

Good luck with your eggs!

I you had a leg-feathered, top-hatted, muffed and tufted rump-less, especially if it was silky-feathered or frizzled, you could name the breed the Tribble!

**Edited to add the leg feathers
