I bought four Bearded White Silkie chicks off a man in Durban who claims they are purebred and show quality. They are 5 weeks old. One of them is smaller than the rest, has blue feet, beak and skin, and has a bit more of a 'hair style'. The others are very fat, big and have pink skin and yellow feet. We asked the breeder why, and he said they are Bearded White Yanzte Silkies, and that there is a gene pool and some of them are born like that (pink skin, yellow feet). He said it's called the Melrose gene. Are they pure silkies? Or have we been tricked? It sounded a bit fishy to me.
The silkie on the right is the one with the blue skin, feet and beak, and the other is the one with the pink skin and yellow feet.
Thanks in advance,
Hannah
