don't worry about the electric fence hurting your dogs or cats. You can grab the fence, it just hurts!!! My 70 pound chocolate lab stays away from the electric fence and our brussel griffin puppy was 5# when he hit the electric fence. Only happened once. My barn cats avoid it now also. The funny part of the whole thing is when my chickens are outside the run every animal we own ignores them, cats, dogs they all just look. On the plus side I have not lost any more to raccoons. Lost 7 before the electric fence was installed.
