Beast bantams for Australian backyard

Where did you purchase your little chicks

When I first started out, I bought Cilla and her original companion from Northside Produce. Any chicks from then on have been hatched here. I do not have a rooster [not allowed] so if/when one of my gals go broody and I cave [which is not often because we are limited to 6 hens so I see no point in hatching chicks if I can not keep any] I purchase them some fertile eggs and 3 weeks later, adorable bubbies!

I was a nervous wreck with my first hatch and as soon as I gave Cilla the eggs I thought 'Yikes! What have I done'!

She is a wonderful mumma and knew exactly what she was doing which was pretty good considering she had never done it before

We have only had 4 hatches here but every one has been very special and I will never tire of watching a mumma hen raise her babies; it it so beautiful to watch.

Sadly, no hatches for a while as we are in the process of moving to FNQ .. hubby is up there putting the final touches on the new coop as I type and our fur and feather babies fly out on the 12th of May with me following on the 15th of June.

Hopefully when the move is all finalised and we have settled in .. next summer I might just cave to a broody
