First hot summer days with my chickens, and I've found myself worrying about the soaring temps in their coop while I'm working on finishing the run. I can't let them free-range as I worry about them wandering into a neighbors yard, or getting snatched by a cat.
So, I went into my freezer and got some frozen blocks of squash mixed with cottage cheese I'd made in my ice cube tray for my baby. The stuff must have started fermenting before I froze it, because the one block I thawed for baby had that sour ferment smell. I wasn't sure what to do with the other blocks, but today I gave some of the still frozen mix to my hens in their fermented feed. They love it, and the fact that it's frozen means they can't eat it all at once, and have to pace themselves. I feel less guilty hiding in the basement instead of hammering away at hardware cloth now.
But really, you could freeze anything, even the FF. The birds love it.
