Beat up by a mother hen

A Nankin bantam adolescent got herself into the brooder coop this afternoon and the Mama hen beat her up very badly.
She was in shock, huddled in a corner, when I found her. Her neck and back of her head are nearly completely exposed, but much of the damage look s superficial. One eye is slightly swollen.
She's on rescue remedy, heating pad, polyvisol, raw egg.
Any other thoughts? She's a dear little thing and I'd hate to lose her.

BlueMoon, Those mama hens can be quite ferocious when another bird gets into their territory. Is there any way you can prevent something like this from happening again?

For your injured girl, she probably is in shock. Sounds like you've done a good job so far. I'd just keep her in isolation until you see some improvement and keep up the rescue remedy and vitamins. Make sure that if she has any cuts, you clean them up with saline solution or tea tree oil.

Thank you both. She's in a basket, on heat blanket, loosely wrapped in a towel. She's drinking, but not by herself.
The poor little thing has no skin left at the back of her head/neck and none at her throat. We still have tons of flies - would you recommend BluKote or wound dressing too? And I only have tea tree oil - how do i dilute it?

The good news is that she's been alive for at least five hours. If she can make it thru the night, I think she has a good chance.

The other good news is that I had yogurt here and she is gobbling it up, all by herself!

About the brooder - there is an open space at the top of the door and the smaller birds fly in. This mama is particularly protective and killed another young small bird last week that lived in the brooder and did horrid damage to it's clutchmate. I've since removed the survivor and the remaining one she didn't attack.

So, the brooder redesign is this weekend.

At the very least an antibiotic salve, I use neo. Sorry I can't help more and glad you at least know where the problem is so you can fix it. Hang in there.

edited to say flush the wound with saline solution everyday and reaply salve. That is what I would do someone may come on and help with more info. If you think she is in pain do a search on Asprin and find out what the dose is to add to her water. Sorry I can't help more.

please cook the egg >raw eggwhite contains avidin which inhibits uptake of biotin which is crucial to your birds health (altho eating the occasional raw egg is sometimes unavoidable giving it to a weak and shocked bird is certainly not to be recommended)
