One of my white crested black polish roosters took a beating yesterday. I got home from work and my frizzled rooster was standing over him pecking. The frizzle is always showing who the boss is but is not at all agressive toward people. The polish has a bloody back and head, all he will do is lay arouond and only arouse up when I mess with him, moves everything OK but won't walk. So far I am keeping antibiotic ointment on his back and giving him sugar water with a syringe. Is there anything else I can try. Thanks

Just wanted to let you guys know the polish rooster died Friday night. He never did try to get back up. On the up side I have 5 BCM in the incubator and one is trying to get out as I left for work. Hope he will be waiting on me when I get home along with four others. Started out with 8 so far 3 didn't develop.

That sounds good but make sure the neosporin does not have lidocane, it is poisonous to chickens, and make sure you are not forcing the water down him. You could actually drowned him. Good luck.

Ditto. Sounds like you have it under control. He's probably frightened. Keep him warm and isolated until he heals. Good luck. You can also offer him treats like scrambled eggs or yorgurt.

I wouldn't add sugar to the water for more than a day or so. Otherwise, yes, just some TLC and good nutrition.

Thanks for the help. I have him in the house under a heat lamp. I usually give him about 3cc of water at a time so he doesn't dehydrate. I just hope he pulls through. My wife is upset so if he does he will probably get to live in the house.

Sounds like he's okay. One of my four m.o. hens took quite a beating from a dog a few days ago, (shook her around, grabbed her neck and everything) and she didn't want to walk for a few days. she's fine now though, just missing a bunch of feathers. I she had a dislocated hock (I guess that's what it is, it's what we call it on horses) and I popped it back and she was fine. still didn't walk for a day or so. Also she's still a little unbalanced she falls over sometimes because one side of her is heavier than the other.

this hens been through the mill, though! yesterday a fox/coyote got her and dragged her down the hill in our yard, but I sent my dogs after it and it dropped her and ran.

We try to make sure all our babies are taken care of. We have horses, goats, dogs, 1 peacock, mini donkey and mini horse. One of my big horses stuck her rear leg through a fence and cut 2 tendons and tore the skin half way down her leg. That cost alot, but it could have been worse. She has to stay in the barn though, she won't fit in the house.

The polish chickens ( from my experience) should only be with other polish chickens. They get picked on so horribly by the other chickens. Not only do they look different but they don't have the peripheral vision they need because of those feathers on the top of their heads. It makes them easy targets.

Good luck with him. Your doing all that you possibly can. I'm sure he will be fine. Let us know how he does.
