Hi 😊 I'm creating this thread to document my new hen Beatrix's Journey of recovery.

A short back story. I attended my local small animal auction yesterday evening. My main goal was looking for a tom turkey for my two hens. They need a themselves a nice Tom. While looking in all the cages I noticed blood on the floor near a lower pen. Upon further inspection I could see this poor hen pushed to the corner. All the other hens 9 of them were pecking at her. At this point they had already opened up a pretty decent size hole on her back. And blood also coming from her wings. I immediately got the attention of the auction owner and he found a box and put her in it. At that moment I told him I want to bid on her and just her if she could be auction by herself. Wasn't to much competition for her $2.75 she was mine. The ticket said she's a Road Island Red. Age unknown. She did lay an egg shorty after we got home and I got her cleaned up and settled in.
She's definitely wilder than any of my chickens. I have a feeling it will take some time for her to warm up to me.
She also pretty aggressive but that understandable I have no idea how long she was in that crate judging by how much she ate and drank when I got her home it wasn't a day. I know most of those poor hens come from another auction off the dealers trailer. They jump auction to auction.
I'm excited to document her recovery and journey to becoming a happy hen.
